NEWSPRINT

Mondi Shanduka Newsprint markets newsprint under the brands Mondi Enviroprint and Mondi Headline News, which are sold to the local and international markets respectively.

Our PM4 and PM5 machines produce 220 00 tons of newsprint annually. These machines run continuously at over 1000m/min. Twin wires give both sides of the paper a smooth even finish for excellent printing results on modern presses.

Newsprint uses recycled fibre in a ratio of 1:3 with virgin wood pulp. The recycled pulp comprises of a mix consisting of approximately 30% magazine and 70% newspaper. The addition of this pulp produces a quality product with superior finishes. The recycled fibre content results in a closed sheet of improved smoothness and reduced porosity for better colour reproduction and printability.

Each machine deckles to 5.6 metres and is quipped with on-line computerised control systems ensuring consistent paper quality. The quality paper is then wound onto reels, using technologically advanced winders to specific reel sizes. Automatic reel wrapping, computerised weighing and barcode labelling ensure a traceable and protected product.

The finished goods are stored in warehouses around the country allowing efficient supply chain service to customers. Our logistics services have implemented a web-based order tracking system ensuring customers orders can be located at any time.

Mondi Enviroline is manufactured to international standards on PM5. The machine deckles to 5.6 metres on this grade. We overcome the difficulty of manufacturing low grammage (40gsm) by blending mechanical fibres (TMP) with chemical pulp and a percentage of recycled fibre. This achieves optimum porosity, opacity, smoothness, formation, and good strength for high-speed web printing. Twin wires give both sides of the paper a smooth, even finish, and with calendaring, improves smoothness in this paper and gives sharp definition of small type.
